10 Best Tips to Ace your Internship: Your insider guide to success
By: The JobsBloggers
It’s that time of year: We say farewell to our fall interns. And hello, winter interns!
With this transition in mind, we asked intern alums who are active in our social channels to drop some knowledge. We asked them: “What’s your #1 tip for getting the most out of your internship?”
So whether you are an incoming intern or might consider applying in the future, read on to receive real-life advice from interns who have been there.
HERE’S WHAT OUR INTERN ALUMS RECOMMEND:
Megan: Reach out to different members of your team to learn about their experiences at Microsoft. Great way to learn about the different opportunities and resources Microsoft has to offer.
Luis: Be confident and bold when making decisions. One of the best tips I heard was, “It’s better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.”
Vinay: Always be curious to learn new things. Ditto, says Dheeraj: Learn something from every single person there…each one has their own vision.
Muirín : Don’t see yourself as only an intern: Imagine you are an employee in charge of bringing your feature into production. Learn to manage upwards as it is very important that your manager knows you are taking your role seriously.
Pratik: Be open to having your views challenged, and respectfully challenge views that have not changed for a long time.
Geekay: Work as if it’s your own company you are working for.
Darian: Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
William: Be as ambitious as you can be, get yourself as dirty as you can get.
Kratika: Attack problems, and grasp as much as possible.
David: Talk to people. You get out of it what you put into it.
There are your ten tips. Straight talk from people who know. Endless possibilities for everyone.
And one final question we got from Nitish in our community: “How do I get there?” Apply here.
