Job Sharing is becoming more popular

Questions about job sharing, one of the many perks offered at Microsoft, come up all the time. It’s not something that is offered with all teams or all positions, but it is becoming more popular among managers as they see how successful it is. We've talked about job sharing before, but since it's such a popular topic here's a quick refresher.
What is job sharing? Exactly what it sounds like: two employees sharing one job. As I mentioned in my introduction, I’ve been privileged to be in the right team and right position to allow for this type of work. My colleague Jamie and I are both sharing the Staffing Consultant role right now. She’s working 30 hours and I’m working 24 hours. It works out perfectly because we both have the drive and passion to succeed, and we also compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses. It really does make us the perfect duo in a single role.
Of course I can’t forget to mention the work/life balance piece to it. It gives us both more time to spend with our little ones. My daughter would be sad if she didn’t have play dates on Tuesdays and music class on Thursdays. :-)
If you're interested in job sharing, perform a search on our Career site using “Job Share”, “TeleWork”, “Flex Time”, “Part-Time” or “Compressed Work Week” to apply to available jobs that allow flexible work arrangements.

+1 for job sharing and part-time work. (I share with Ariel of microspotting.com fame.) It rocks.

I've been job-sharing (for one of my two jobs) for the last two years, and it does work pretty well. I think it helps that we aren't just splitting tasks in two, or tossing a coin: we have a lot in common, but the guy I share with is much more experienced in the graphic design and UI/UX side than I am, while I have the edge on back-end things (database work, web servers) — since our main task is developing a web application together, this works pretty well!
