A home away from home
Posted Wednesday, December 03 2008 by The JobsBloggersFor international candidates, moving to a new country for a job opportunity can be daunting. The good news is that Microsoft takes care of most of the details such as relocation, temporary housing, filing for a work visa -- and now, helping your spouse/partner to assimilate.
Microsoft recently created its first immigrant spouse/partner website: the Microsoft Immigration Family Network (MSIFN).This site contains relevant career-related information, a schedule of upcoming spouse/partner networking and self-development events, a message board, blog and much more for Microsoft employees' loved ones. In addition, the company sponsors personal and professional development workshops to help spouses/partners advance their skills while networking with others. The MSIFN community is a resource that provides support to those new to the United States and those who have been here awhile. The end goal is to create a positive community that improves the quality of life for visa-impacted spouses/partners of Microsoft employees.
As one of our MSIFN members stated: "This is a wonderful platform to meet people and see that there are a lot of people like me who are sailing in the same boat. I would really encourage you (MSIFN) to keep organizing events where we can meet and gain knowledge.” (For more testimonials click here.)
Microsoft is always looking to improve -- and MSIFN is no exception. Let me know if you have any ideas for expanding this program. I’ll be sure to pass it along to the program manager responsible for this new charter.

This is great, but as MS is not just around Redmond these days, perhaps the site could be similarly expanded?
I think probably you have the best Human Resources in the IT world. Keep going!
int19h - agreed:) This program is relatively new, but as it grows and expands, I'm sure that other Microsoft sites would be interested in mirroring!
Pablo Castilla - I'll be sure to share that nice comment to the PM managing this program:)
Hi everyone- it is great to see positive comments about our program. We have started to expand beyond Redmond by having workshops in Texas, North Carolina, California and Florida. Our next step is to think about how to expand to other countries. We are always looking for new ways to support the community. Feel free to share your thoughts on the program or ask questions.

I'll second that, and I'm saying it from personal experience now :)
