After her first month as a Principal Platform Specialist at Microsoft in San Francisco, Jessie Gertz sat down to do a series of video interviews about her experiences thus far.
Check out our second video where Jessie explains what most surprised her about working at Microsoft – from the breadth and depth of opportunity to the company’s support for volunteerism (read on below for an overview of the interview):
Jessie, what has surprised you the most about the Microsoft culture?
Every day, I learn something new about a Microsoft product or solution. And, from the outside looking-in, you’re not always aware of everything Microsoft has to offer.
The biggest surprise is the ability to have so many different careers within one company. And being one individual in a large company, you can grow yourself personally and professionally. You can constantly challenge yourself as you learn more parts of the business and round out your professional portfolio.
Technology is obviously important at Microsoft. But the company’s commitment to health and community are paramount. Leaders actively support volunteerism and donations to nonprofits. All of this creates a culture that really helps you feel you are doing something fulfilling.
